How to Make a Grapefruit Banana Smoothie
Step 1: Gather ingredients
This smoothie is so simple but so fruity and delicious. The star of the smoothie is, of course, the grapefruit. The grapefruit offers that irreplaceable freshness and fruitiness. I recommend cutting off the peel of the grapefruit to reduce the bitter after-taste of grapefruit – try to cut off as much of the white rind as possible as this can cause a bitter taste.
The other main ingredient is banana, which offers natural sweetness to counter the slight bitterness of grapefruit, as well as creaminess to the smoothie. To keep your smoothie cold and refreshing, I recommend using frozen banana.
Another fruit that is added to this smoothie, is strawberries. The strawberries are again for natural sweetness and go wonderfully with both grapefruit and banana.
And finally, for sweetness, this recipe calls for a little bit of honey. Just a tad of honey goes a long way to naturally sweeten this smoothie and again remove that bitterness, without interfering with the flavours.
Lastly, a wonderful addition to this smoothie is some fresh mint leaves.

- 1 grapefruit (peeled)
- 1 banana
- 1/2 cup strawberries
- 1 cup water
- 1 handful fresh mint leaves
- 1 tsp honey, or to taste
