blueberry protein shake

This super creamy blueberry protein shake packs a delicious protein punch with plenty of all-natural protein sources.

What I love about this recipe, is that you can definitely use it to get in some protein powder without tasting the unpleasant chalkiness, but you can also leave out the protein powder entirely and there is still tons of healthy, natural protein from the carefully-selected ingredients I’ve included.

I also love how it tastes amazing and fruity but has no added sugars and even has some spinach in it! You’d never know!

This blueberry protein shake is great to drink after a workout! (or whenever, really)

How to Make a Blueberry Protein Shake

how to make a blueberry protein shake

You can make this blueberry protein shake with just a few simple ingredients.

The main fruit and flavour in this smoothie is, of course, blueberry. You can use fresh or frozen blueberries.

Another excellent fruit to add in is banana. Banana helps add sweetness to the smoothie, as well as creaminess to the texture.

For the liquid base of the smoothie, select a milk of your choice.

The key here is to use milk instead of water as your base.

Milk is a great source of protein, especially nut milks like almond milk.

The other (optional) dairy in this recipe is yogurt, which again adds tons of protein and makes the smoothie thicker and creamier.

More protein comes in the form of the almond butter and the oats.

I love almond butter with the vanilla extract and blueberries in this smoothie, but feel free to use whatever nut butter you have on hand, like peanut butter or cashew butter.

And of course, throw in a scoop of your favourite protein powder, if you’d like.

Note: This smoothie can also easily be turned into a smoothie bowl by using frozen blueberries and banana which will give you a lovely spoonable consistency.

Blueberry Protein Shake Health Benefits

The wholesome ingredients in this blueberry protein shake offer plenty of health benefits, for example…

The blueberries are an excellent source of powerful antioxidants called polyphenols, all while really bringing up the flavour of the smoothie.

The banana is a natural sweetener, and a great source of important fibre and potassium.

The nut butter is packed with plenty of healthy fats, protein, and fibre – all great for regulating blood sugar, building muscle, and energy.

The oats are a great source of fibre and iron.

The milk and yogurt add plenty of protein as well as calcium and probiotics.

And you can toss in some spinach for extra iron, calcium, and protein (you won’t taste it).

Give this creamy and delicious blueberry protein shake a try after a workout, and let me know how you like it!
