How to Make a Carrot Apple Smoothie

carrot apple smoothie recipe

Step 1: Gather ingredients

The ingredients to this smoothie are fairly simple and all super healthy!

The bulk of the smoothie is made up of equal parts carrots and apples.

Carrots are naturally slightly sweet, but I like to also pick sweet apple varieties to bring up the sweetness of the smoothie even more. Apple varieties like Pink Lady or Fuji are very sweet.

Then you will want some citrus.

You’ll want orange, again for the sweetness and complementary citrus flavour.

And you’ll want lemon. I find the zesty lemon juice really ties in the carrot and apple flavours nicely and makes the whole smoothie taste less vegetable-y.

And then there is the ginger which adds a nice freshness and spice to the smoothie and pairs wonderfully with the other flavours. And it’s sooo good for you!

Step 2: Blend!

Carrot Apple Smoothie Benefits

This smoothie offers so many health benefits!

The carrots are full of important vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin A for your eyes, calcium for your bones, as well as fibre for your gut!

Carrots contains special compounds you may have heard of, called carotenoids. Carotenoids are what give carrots their bright orange colour. They play a role as antioxidants in the body and can be beneficial in decreasing risk of disease, such as eye disease and some cancers!

The apples are another great source of fibre and vitamins, and offer a natural sweetness so you don’t have to add any sugar to this smoothie.

I like to keep the peel on the apples as this is where the bulk of the nutrients are stored – just be sure to blend it well to avoid any grains of peel left behind!

The ginger is a classic medicinal root with anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. It is known to help fight infections and relieve cold symptoms, as well as aid in digestion.

Like the apple peel, I also like to keep the ginger skin on for maximum nutritional value as this is where most of the nutrients are concentrated.

And the orange and lemon are packed with vitamins such as vitamin C which plays many important roles in the immune system.

Altogether, your immune system will love this smoothie!
